Band History
Success followed, in the first instance being awarded lottery funding to provide instruments for use in the youth band, now a separate entity from the school. This coincided with the appointment to the music staff of brass tutor James Anderson, who took over as the Musical Director of the band. The newly formed youth band proved successful and had as honorary president, Stephen Hendry, World Snooker Champion and a former pupil of Queensferry High School.
Success in the contest field followed when the band won the Scottish Youth Championship on two occasions – 1997 and 1999 – then gaining a creditable 4th place and being awarded the trophy for the most promising band, at the UK Championships in Manchester in 2000.
The band’s development continued and in 2004, the band entered the field of adult brass banding, registering with the Scottish Brass Band association and operating under the rules and conditions of that organisation.
Jim Anderson retired in December 2024. Our current musical director is Craig Savage.
